The Vestal USS Observer chronograph watch has a very comfortable watchband. The silicone band is thin and the watch case allows the band to hinge in two places on each side where the band attaches to the case. This gives the watch a very comfortable fit. but I dont think that the band is meant for someone with a large wrist. I like the look of the watch, but the one I received was slightly different than the image on Amazon. The watch I received had the numbers on the watch date box as being black. The Amazon image shows them as white. The result is; the black date numbers on the black face of the watch make reading the date impossible. But I still like the look of the watch;I have mixed feelings about this watch. I have two of them, because I really like it, and it has issues, (so best to have an extra lying about). The good: looks great, keeps very accurate time, the silicone band feels really nice on the wrist, and Vestal has excellent warranty service. Just google "Vestal" and email the address on the website. In roughly a week you have your repaired watch back or a new one. They sent me a new one the second time I sent mine in for service on the band. The bad: the many screws in this watch which give it the retro mechanical look tend to back out. I have had it fall off my wrist in pieces twice. I finally used Loctite to keep everything together. At daylight savings 2014 the crown came off in my hand, the metal is very thin and it sheared off. Maybe I should give it less stars, but it is attractive and comfortable enough to get my expensive Longines off my wrist every weekend to do my cycling and house projects, so I will stay with it.I love this watch. I love the plain but clear "aircraft instrument" look to the dial, and I get compliments on it constantly. It keeps great time, and there are some seemingly small things that set it apart from other watches at this price point. One is that the second hand lines up exactly with the tick marks on the outside of the dial. That's not the case often enough, even with more expensive watches. Plenty waterproof - I've been swimming with it multiple times. And it's durable: I've accidentally hit it walking around a corner a couple of times and there's not a single scuff or scratch on it yet.I haven't had any of the hinge pin issues described by earlier reviewers, so this must have either been fixed or perhaps was only a problem with a few of them. The only thing that bothers me just a little (not enough to deduct a star) is that the timer buttons are a little "soft", so when you press them you don't get a tactile "click" feedback - you have to look to make sure the second timer hand is moving. But aside from that - I couldn't be happier with it.i researched this watch a lot online in the watch forums because the price seemed too good to be true. the watch 'snobs' on the forums referred to it as a 'fashion' watch, like fossil, guess, or hilfiger, so i wasn't sure about getting one because i was worried about its quality. the more i checked the more favorable reviews it got, especially regarding Vestal's customer service, so i rolled the dice. The shipping time was incredible, got it in less than a week! and it is a nice watch. it wears bigger than 46mm, it has weight, but isn't heavy on the wrist. I don't like the band it came with and will swap it out, but that's personal preference. the price is great, cheaper than anywhere else, around $70 - 85 dollars cheaper than ebay. I was able to access the instruction manual online without issues. the chronograph function is different that with other watches. on others, the top button starts/stops and the bottom is the reset, but on this watch it is the opposite. i've had this watch for 5 days, and haven't worn another since.Along with my Android watch, this Vestal is the best value out there. The watch is definitely on the bigger side, but it's not as "high" as the thick Invictas or TW Steel type watches. The face is very readable and visible, but it takes a bit of getting used to, that instead of the 12 and 6, it has the 11, 1, 5 and 7. Just makes it a bit different, that's all.I highly recommend it. The rubber strap is not as attractive as leather or steel, but its super comfortable. If I replace the rubber strap with a black matte metal one, it'll really stand out. ebay, here I come for the strap...UPDATE: I bought and replaced the rubber strap with a metal one. Looks fantastic in my opinion.. cost was $20 for the metal band.According to the Amazon page on this Vestal USS Observer Chrono:It's supposed to be made in Japan. My unit came with a nearly invisible sticker that clearly says, "Made in China".It did not come with any instructions nor warranty paperwork. The Vestal website does not show the "chrono" version of this watch as being a current model!I never could figure out how to even set the time on this thing. The middle "button" is really a screw-cover that supposedly has multiple positions to set and operate the watch. All it does is unscrew to reveal a small push-button underneath, which seemingly does nothing. The "luminous" portion of the dial is weak at best, and the greenish glow doesn't last but more than 5-10 seconds, then totally fades into nothingness. A good luminous watch dial will hold a luminescent glow for several minutes - even an hour or more.I suspect this is a CHINESE KNOCKOFF of a Vestal product.DO NOT purchase this product!Extremely masculine and has kept time and date so far. The band is nice and comfortable, however one pin is loose. Will have to insert some loctite on the threads, do not want to lose this masterpiece. Plenty of compliments on this timepiece.
